Florida’s $1 Million Bass Bounty

Less Than 2 Weeks to Claim the 2010 Florida $1 Million Bass Bount.

Author – Ari Vineberg

It turns out that not all fish stories are lies and that in fact, some of the most outlandish ones are actually true – like the one about a bass worth a million dollars. Imagine a fish worth a million dollars in prize money. You gotta be kidding, right? Well wrong, as in the State of Florida during the month of July, anglers from all over North America registered in the month long tournament will have a chance at both fame and fortune thanks to the people at BountyFishing and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Registration costs $7/day or $19/week, and half of your entry fee goes to protecting Florida’s fish and wildlife habitats if you register through this link: largemouth bass fishing tournament signup form.

This is the largest cash money prize ever offered in the history of tournament fishing for a single bass, the grand lottery of largemouth bass, the holy grail of fishing tournaments, and one that has anglers across all of North America packing up their fishing gear, loading up their trucks and heading off to Florida, leaving only a note behind them taped to their refrigerator doors – «Gone fishing – Back in a month!»

Bass beware, there is a Bounty on your head. Not just any bass though as the million dollar prize will be awarded to the angler that manages to land the one that will beat the existing Florida state record of 17.25 lbs., a number considered by many, including state biologist Tom Chapeau, Director of the Division of Freshwater Management, that can easily be eclipsed as a number of large catches, including a fish in 2008 of 18.5 lbs. have been caught and released without certification by FWC biologists.

This tournament is a joint partnership between BountyFishing and FCW to re-enforce Florida as the «Bass fishing capitol of the World.»  The million dollar bass bounty is open to all anglers fishing legally in any body of public water in Florida from July 5-August 1 and registration is $7.00 per day or $19.00 per week.

BountyFishing is the world’s largest internet managed fishing tournament where anglers from all across the country, using only a digital camera, can compete from their home waters against other members from different regions across the country by uploading their catch information to the website. It is a revolutionary new model for fishing tournaments, one that is predicated on conservation and catch & release practices, and which allows access to tournament fishing to anglers from all locations across North America.

BountyFishing is a cross between Facebook, Bassmasters, and CSI as it is a platform that allows members to upload both photos and stories, share information, fishing tips, and of course, compete against each other for money. It is at once a social network for fisherman and an on-line fishing tournament, credibly backed-up by its patented FBI strength image analysis software techniques and forensics to validate uploaded photos.

The information and scientific data obtained through uploaded data gathered by BountyFishing during the tournament will then be shared and used by the FWC to help draft the Florida Black Bass Management Plan. It is the perfect partnership as both organizations are conservation minded and a portion of the tournament proceeds will be donated back to the FWC to conserve Florida’s Fish and wildlife habitats for future generations. It is truly a win-win situation for everybody involved, including the fishery. And while Florida has always been a mainstay for tourism, there are now a million new reasons to visit the Sunshine State of Florida in July.
